Laps ahead - speed through with HP Double Swath Technology
Great news for businesses that require accurate line drawings and high quality colour results fast. Powered by the new HP Double Swath Technology, the HP Designjet 4000 printer series offers high-speed colour and black-and-white printing up to 42 inches wide, complete with outstanding line and colour accuracy, image quality and remote printer management.
HP Double Swath Technology
With HP Double Swath Technology, the HP Designjet 4000 printer series has twice the performance of current HP large-format printers* without sacrificing image quality or product rebustness. This is possible through several innovative breakthroughs.

Advanced Plated Design
-
Overdrive rollers on the platen keep the media sheet in tension in order to handle paper expansion in the feed direction.
-
The unique staggered vacuum channel design is precisely engineered. The vacuum channels control paper expansion in the cross-feed direction, while also holding stiffer media flat. This prevents head crash and contributes to the high print quality of the output.
-
Independent vacuum control over both the print zone and overdrive area enables the printer to optimise suction by media type across two separate areas, adjusting for factors such as position of leading edge, media width and media stiffness. This gives flexibility and robustness across a wide range of media types, from plain paper to glossy media, while smoothing the transition between the print zone and overdrive area.
Well equipped for complex print jobs
The HP Designjet 4000 printer series is equipped with an embedded processor and 256 MB of memory (upgradeable to 512 MB).
Together with the 40 Gb hard disk drive, it allows quick printing of complex print jobs and provides simultaneous processing and printing capability.
Line accuracy and superior image quality
±0.1% line accuracy for exacting reproductions
The HP Designjet 4000 printer series is able to achieve greater media advance accuracy. Up to ±0.1% line accuracy* provides more accurate line drawings for critical applications.
*(±0.1% of the specified vector length or ±0.1 mm (whichever greater) at 23°C, 50-60% relative humidity, on A0 printing material in Best or Normal mode with HP Matte Film.)
-
The media roll disc encoder, critical for sensing and providing feedback about media advance, is now mounted directly on the media roll to eliminate transmission errors.
-
The disc encoder has also been upgraded, with twice the effective resolution of previous encoders. This results in finer and more exacting ink placement on the media surface.
-
A new re-wind mechanism provides auto-torque regulation, which sustains a more constant tension regardless of friction conditions. This allows a steadier, more consistent media advance.
2400 x 1200 dpi for excellent detail and vibrant colour
You can depend on getting the consistent, high quality colour results that your business needs with the HP Designjet 4000 printer series and new HP 90 ink cartridges. The 5-picoliter dye-based CMY ink drops produce stunning image quality while the 15-picoliter pigment-based black drop volume contributes to fine line accuracy and quality. Together with up to 2400 x 1200 optimised dpi* resolution, they achieve excellent reproduction of detail in your prints.
In addition, HP Smart Printing technology in the printer and HP ink cartridges continually adjusts cartridge properties for optimum print results and provides automatic alerts when supplies are low.
*(2400 x 1200 optimised dpi from 1200 x 1200 input dpi)
Automatic fault correction produces consistently superb results
The HP Designjet 400 printer series is equipped with multi-pass fault tolerant print modes, which are used to eliminate banding and ensure reliable output and consistent image quality from print to print.
-
Error hiding - optical drop detectors in the printer are able to detect non-working nozzles and designs the print mask to substitute for them accordingly.
-
Back-up print mode - if error hiding fails (nozzles cannot be hidden by replacement), higher-pass print modes are initiated at the beginning of printing, in conjunction with error hiding, to prevent loss of information. This eliminates inconsistencies and preserves fine horizontal lines that are one dot wide.
HP Professional Colour technologies
HP Colour Layering Technology
The HP Designjet 4000 printer series prints more levels of colour intensity per dot with HP Colour Layering Technology. These colour shades can be layered to increase the number of colours on the printer's palette. It also controls the amount of ink for each primary colour applied to each print position, yielding a greater range of colours, lighter tones and smoother gradients.
Automatic Closed Loop Colour calibration
Using Automatic Closed Loop Colour calibration processes, the HP Designjet 4000 printer series can ensure accurate and consistent colour reproduction from printer to printer and print to print. A narrow-band LED light source is used to illuminate primary colour tiles. The reflected light is measured by a colour sensor and adjustments, based on the measurements, are made to the amount of primary ink used.
Network connectivity comes standard
The HP Designjet 4000 printer series includes an embedded Jetdirect Fast Ethernet print server for fast, easy deployment into your office network. Even better, upgrade options include the HP Jetdirect 40d Gigabit Ethernet printer server, high speed USB 2.0 card or an EIO slot for a variety of HP Jetdirect internal print servers.
Driverless printing regardless of operating system
Save time with the convenient driverless multi-file printing workflow, which is independent of operating system and simply requires a TCP/IP connection and a standard Web browswer. Experience support for a wide range of formats, including TIFF, JPEG, CALS/G4, HP-RTL and HP-GL/2, Adobe® PostScript and PDF* to help you quickly and accurately finish any job.
*(Only HP Designjet 4000ps Printer supports Adobe® PostScript level 3 and PDF 1.5
Easy-to-use printer management tools
HP Embedded Web Server provides a universal interface that anyone with a network-connected PC and a standard Web browser can easily access, as long as the HP Designjet 4000 series is connected to the network. It allows you to view status information, set network configurations, receive status, notifications and troubleshoot remotely.
